FAQ

Over the years, we have answered hundreds of questions regarding the SCREAMIN system.  We have addressed the  most frequently asked questions.

Q.  How long will it take me to begin using the system?

       A.   It depends on how many of the errors described in the video that you have to handle, and the amount of time you are willing to invest in learning the system and systematically breaking the old habits. Some players quickly mastered the system because they were already playing close to the system without realizing it.  With a few minor adjustments as outlined in the video, most students experienced  instantaneous  results.

Our experience shows that a typical come back player can experience results within the first few months. We recommend that you concentrate and study the segment of the video entitled, "Production of Tone."  Watch it several times and you'll notice each time you watch it you will learn something new.  It is loaded with vital information that is the foundation for the system.

Q.   How long did it take the come back player on your web site ( Ron Levi) to learn the system ?

       A. Ron already knew how to play the trumpet, but not the right way!  He wanted to perfect his embouchure while adding range and endurance.  Ron had several issues to address for his embouchure development that we worked on one by one.  Some were easy to clear up while others took some time to correct. He kept notes of our lessons-- what worked what didn't work.  As a result, the SCREAMIN system evolved into a relatively easy system to learn.

Q.   I seem to play off center.  Will this be a handicap?

       A. A lot of the great players have their mouthpiece placement off center.  The placement depends on your comfort zone and the way you use your air. This has not been a problem for SCREAMIN users.

Q.   What mouthpiece do you recommend?

       A.  The best mouthpiece for anyone is one that feels comfortable for the player.  We recommend limiting the number of variables as you start the learning process so we seldom comment on the mouthpiece unless it is a clear detriment to effective playing.

Q.    What are the differences between the SCREAMIN system and all the other systems out there today?

      A.  The purpose of a system is to enable a player to achieve the results he is after and to be able to do this continually. The SCREAMIN system provides information in the video so you can see the proper technique.  You also have free tech support so your chances of success are much greater than simply reading an instructional manual and trying to interpret what the author is trying to convey.

Q.  Do you have a book with strengthening exercises?

     A.  Not at this time. However, if you are playing correctly, you can utilize and build strength by using the method books that are already in your library.

Q. Can I get personal instruction from you?

     A. Yes.  We've given personal lessons to people from the US and several countries who have come to Pittsburgh and Orlando Florida for a day or two of intense one-on one instruction. If you arrange a group clinic in your home town we will come to you and provide the same level of instruction.  Call us for fees and information.

Q. What equipment does Bill and Ron play ?

     A. Our mouthpiece is a Warburton WCC.

Q. How long should I practice the system every day?

      A. We recommend that practicing the mechanical aspects of the system about 30 minutes a day.  As it incorporates into your regular practice session you will be able to extend the system into longer periods of your daily practice routine.

Q. I have been studying the system for a few months and have extended my range, endurance and sound considerably.  Although when I play in my band I can't seem to maintain the same level of expertise as in the practice room.  What's going on?

     A. The mechanics of playing the trumpet correctly and using those mechanics in a musical sense are two different things. This happens often to players.  In the practice room, the student has time to think about the mechanics of the system and properly breathe.  These variables can change in a band situation which is all about playing music so the embouchure becomes second nature.  The goal is to make the SCREAMIN system second nature to you.

Q. I am 50 plus years old and a come back player, I'm worried that if it takes two - three years to learn the system, I'll be too old.

     A. Father time marches on whether you learn the system or not. Wouldn't it be rewarding at this time in your life to accomplish your goals that you have always desired as a trumpet player.
